Memory is stored in two ways- explicit (facts and figures) and implicit (emotions). They form one complete memory. But, under stress your memories are not coded properly. And that is why certain situations can be a trigger to someone with trauma. The physical response needs to be addressed in trauma treatment. Sometimes trauma victims don’t even recall a certain episode, but their body remembers.
